Fuse Audio Labs has released OCELOT Clipper, the latest edition to their OCELOT plugin series.
With OCELOT Clipper Fuse Audio Labs promises to provide you with a great tool to manage dynamics in you mixes by reducing peaks.
This should allow you to carve out more headroom in your mixes and create more energetic mixes.
Typically clipper plugins don’t have that many features to play around with, and looking at the interface of OCELOT Clipper, it is no exception.
In my opinion the stand out feature of this plugins is the separate knee controls. OCELOT Clipper allows you to set the knee controls for the positive and negative part of the waveform independent from each other. This ultimately gives us more control over how the harmonics are shaped.
OCELOT Clipper also comes with all the usual suspects in terms of features. Input gain, ceiling, oversampling (up to 32 times), and output gain.
With the 1:1 setting the plugin lets you match the output level to the input level, which of course makes it easier to hear the actual effect of the plugin.
The delta function lets you hear only the part of the sound that the plugin is removing. The HQ (High Quality) knob engages ADAA (Anti-Derivative Anti-Aliasing) for additional sound control. And the True Peak knob can be activated to prevent the signal from going over the set peak level.
In my opinion OCELOT Clipper is a very decent clipper plugin. It can be used either on single tracks, group buses, or the mix bus. The plugin can definitely help control the peaks in your mixes. As mentioned, it can help carve out more headroom and help make your music more energetic.
For me the stand out features of the plugin are the separate knee controls, the HQ know and the True Peak knob, giving you a lot of control over the overall sound.
